Raheem Sterling – City goal the most important

In the sixth minute of last weekend’s fantastic victory over Manchester City, Luis Suarez threaded a perfectly weighted through ball to young starlet Raheem Sterling. The winger still had much work to do but he twisted and turned the City defense inside out before slotting the ball calmly into the net. The goal sent Anfield into rapture, and, despite being pegged back to 2-2 in the second half, Liverpool once more took the lead and then held on for a hugely important victory, especially given City’s draw at home to Sunderland last night.

Reflecting on the goal in comparison to others he has scored in this campaign, Sterling suggested that it was the biggest of his Liverpool career – even outweighing the brace he scored against Arsenal in the 5-1 victory earlier in the year.

“It was a good feeling to score in such a big game, and definitely my finest moment to date he said on the club’s official website.

“Scoring two against Arsenal was a big highlight for me, but [to score] in this match because it was a crucial game for us… it was definitely my best goal so far.”

amazon-liverpoolAfter 10 straight victories since the beginning of the year, Liverpool FC is odds on to win its first Premier League, and it is of no doubt that Sterling’s goals, assists and overall contribution on the pitch have been instrumental in these results. He explained that the character of the squad and the team effort of everyone is working together to help his team pull of the important victories, and with just 3 wins and a draw needed to clinch the League – few would bet against them from continuing the extraordinary run.

“It was definitely a big encouragement for the boys and a great team effort. Everyone worked really well. Even when it went to 2-2, everyone kept their character. It was a great all-round team performance and the fans were great as well, so it was a good day on the whole for Liverpool.”
