LFC wish-list prospect: Sevilla’s Moreno

Liverpool bosses have indicated that they will be signing a new left-back this summer and at the top of their wish list is Alberto Moreno.

The 21 year old who currently plays for the Spanish Team Sevilla and is considered to be a rising star. It’s likely his fee will come in at around the £15million mark.

The move comes from the realisation that LFC need to strengthen their back line for the coming season and a list of potentials has now been drawn up.

Moreno has played beautifully in La Liga this season and has been intrinsic in assisting Sevilla to the Europa League final. He is also hopeful of a place in the final World Cup line-up for Spain.

It’s not just Liverpool that have recognised his talent and Chelsea, among other English clubs, are said to be courting him too.

Brendan Rodgers is keeping his options open however and considering other potential targets including Ryan Bertrand and Guilherme Siqueira with whom Liverpool were in talks over last year. They eventually withdrew from talks when they were unable to agree a fee. Siqueira eventually went to Benfica where he currently plays.

Rodgers knows Ryan Bertrand well since coaching him in the youth team at Chelsea, eventually signing him as a loanee to Reading. Bertrand finished this season on loan at Aston Villa and is sure to be keen on a move to Anfield, a move that would see him spending more time on the pitch.

The need for a left back is even more important now that Aly Cissokho’s is due to return to Valencia now that his loan has come to an end. The same applies to Victor Moses who returns to Chelsea. Jose Enrique who has been out of action for most of the season due to a knee-injury is likely to be fit to play in the autumn.

Of course, the position Rodgers is starting from isn’t half bad with Jon Flanagan set to secure a contract renewal this summer. He played extremely well this past season and certainly deserves a place in next Seasons squad. However it also became clear that he is better suited to a right-back position.

Rumours regarding LFC’s interest in Ashley Cole appear to have no foundation.
It seems likely that in order to complete the strengthening of the entire back-line, Rodgers will need to secure a centre-back too and Cardiff City’s Steven Caulker is tipped to be a consideration for this role.
