Gerrard, Suarez & Anfield crowd key to beating City, says Rush.

Football has always been a team sport, but in certain games it is always a few players who stand out and make the difference. For the upcoming game against Manchester City, former Red’s legend, Ian Rush, believes that the key to winning this game lies with a combination of Gerrard and Suarez along with the infamous 12th man provided by The Kop faithful.

“The players will have to hold their nerve, but those like Stevie and Luis will help do that whilst the younger lads like Flanagan and Sterling will experience something new and in years to come hopefully come to expect it in every game,” he said.

The team now have an excellent blend of youth and experience, but with such a tense game to come that will have so much at stake, it will be up to the older players such as Gerrard to guide them through the difficult moments when the action heats up.

Rush was keen to point out the importance of the fans in helping to boost Liverpool’s chances of beating a City side overflowing with talent, and he is sure that they atmosphere they provide will help give the team the extra edge they need to end the game victorious and in the driving seat to win the title.

He added: “We know that down the years there have been some great European nights at Anfield, but I noticed something against Tottenham recently.

“The atmosphere at the start of the game and during the match was brilliant, helping us win 4-0, but at the end no-one left and the biggest cheer came when the players applauded the supporters.

“It was an incredible moment and the fans’ way of telling the players to believe, because they do. I’ve always said that the Kop can be that 12th man and can make the difference in games, which is exactly what they’ll look to do on Sunday.

“As a player, when you feel that support it makes you want to give a little bit extra. When you’re warming up you’re looking round and seeing what it means to the people“.

Anyone who has stood on the Kop will understand the electricity and fervor that flows through the fans when they are in full voice, and this gets transferred to the players. With the biggest match of the season about to come, The Reds will want them to provide the best atmosphere possible in an effort to bring home the club’s first Championship in 23 long years.
