Barcelona loss could be Liverpool’s gain this summer

The Mirror has reported the possibility of Javier Mascherano returning to Liverpool this summer as a result of Barcelona’s commitment to slimming down their current signings. Mascherano and Xabi Alonso both left Anfield at the same time after Liverpool fell four points short of securing the English Premier League Title

It has to be said that the Argentinian player could have been a definite asset and provided support to Steven Gerrard in a mid-field position this past season.

The cost of bringing back Mascherano to LFC could be in the region of just $9million which certainly makes him an attractive prospect.

Mascherano , speaking after Bareclona’s weekend match is reported as saying:

“It could be the last [match with FC Barcelona] for many players,”

Hi agent is said to be looking favourably at a scenario where Mascherano returns to Anfield as a result of recent Liverpool’s excellent performance.

There are also rumours that Rafael Benitez, Mascherano’s manager during his time at Liverpool, is interested in signing his former charge to Napoli. However, it appears that the 29-year old has his heart set on playing in the Premier League next season and where better to spend the rest of his career than back with the Redmen.
