Ayre promises cash for summer transfers

Saturday’s defeat of Norwich means that Liverpool can now finish no lower than 3rd place, which means the club will definitely be playing Champions League football next season.

With that in mind, the board is already beginning to prepare for the extra fixtures, and managing director Ian Ayre is confident that having European elite status for next season will be of great benefit when attracting players of the highest caliber to join the club.

“It has always been tougher in the transfer market when you are not competing at the highest level. We had the issue with Luis (Suarez) last summer because he wanted to play in the best games against the best players. That is always a factor, he said to Sky Sports.

“We have always been fortunate to be able to bring great players here despite that but there is no question it opens up a few doors for us and makes it a little bit easier”.

This season, having no European fixtures mid-week has been of great benefit to the club in that it has not stretched the squad too amazon-liverpoolthin and has allowed Rodgers to concentrate solely on league matches. However, next year will be a much tougher challenge for The Reds and reinforcements will certainly be needed.

Ayre has guaranteed to add players to the squad according to Rodger’s suggestions. While the exact figure is unknown, Champions League football can be worth as much as £60 million to the club and it is expected that most, if not all of this money will be used to strengthen the squad – allowing it to cope with the exertions of league, cup and European football.

“There is no question we always expected that the squad we need for next season will be very different to the squad that we have needed for this year when we were not playing in Europe,” added Ayre.

“It will cost what it costs when we decide who the manager wants to buy. That has always been on the cards. It is fairly obvious that we set out with an ambition to get into the Champions League.
