The on loan had been hoping to soon return to the Stoke first from a knee ligament injury that has kept him out since early in the New Year, however, he has since suffered a setback in his recovery making him unlikely to play again until his planned return to Merseyside in the summer.

Stoke boss, Mark Hughes, is keen to get the player back for the last few games, and hopes that visiting a knee specialist in The Netherlands will get him back to help his side in their final matches of the Premier League.

Hughes told the Sentinel, “He had a little setback when he panged the fatty part of his knee, but he’s getting there now.

“We are hopeful he will be back in action before the end of the season. We hope he will still have a part to play.”

The winger has previously expressed uncertainty over where he will play next year. Having had a productive winter in the Stoke first team, he was enjoying his football and developing nicely, but this injury has halted progress. It remains unclear if Stoke are preparing a summer bid or if Brendan Rodgers has seen enough spark in him to take him back to Anfield for next season.
