With the end of season fast approaching and Liverpool FC in pole position to secure the League, it is not surprising that some of its players are up for awards to acknowledge their contributions to the team’s fortunes and the fans’ entertainment. The Reds have 3 players nominated for the PFA Player of the Year Award – more than any other club in the league.

Leading the way is of course, is star striker Luis Suarez.  Despite being banned for the opening six games, he has flourished up front and has provided 29 goals and numerous assists to date.

Also nominated is his striker partner Daniel Sturridge, who has combined seamlessly with Suarez all year and has scored 23 goals in only 30 appearances. It seems certain that he will be involved in Roy Hodgson’s England plans in Brazil this summer as his form and consistency makes him almost impossible to leave out.

Biting at their heels is an old dog that seems to have learned some new tricks! Captain, Steven Gerrard has been played in an unfamiliar defensive midfield position this season and can no longer rely on his speed and lung bursting performances. However, what he lacks in youth, he makes up for in experience and this has led to an excellent season from the skipper who has pitched in with important goals, assists and defensive work this year. It would be a dream come true for him if he could secure his first Premier League title along with Player of the Year in the same season.

The Young Player of the Year Award also includes two Liverpool players. Sturridge again features along with Raheem Sterling – who has gotten better with every game this year. They will compete against Southampton left back Luke Shaw, Aaron Ramsay of Arsenal, and Everton central midfielder Ross Barkely.
